RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY; THERE IS NO FEE TO ENTER

1.)  Entries must be motion pictures (as defined below) which are original, undistributed works produced, written and/or directed by the submitting filmmaker.

2.)  The submitting filmmaker must be directly responsible for the creative control and direction of the project. Collaborative efforts may be recognized and acknowledged, but only the submitting filmmaker will be awarded any applicable prize.

3.)  All entries using copyrighted material (sound or picture) must obtain proper clearances and permission to use the material. It is the filmmaker's responsibility to notify AVN of such copyrighted material. Documentation showing this clearance and permission must be submitted to AVN upon request. Examples of copyrighted material may include: popular music, stock footage and still photographs. It is the Filmmakers responsibility to obtain rights, clearances and permission. The AVN Film Festival assumes no responsibility for violation of copyright law.

4.)  Content Guidelines: No obscene or violent material. We understand that different people have different opinions on what is considered obscene and/or violent. The purpose of this contest is to challenge your creativity and filmmaking skills as they pertain to erotica in a mature but not pornographic environment, that said, there are certain content restrictions on what will not be allowed:

a.)  All actors and actresses must be at least 18 years of age or older at the time of filming. For purposes of compliance with federal law, you must comply with 18 U.S.C. 2257, and provide the AVN Film Festival with a clear and legible copy of a picture identification card (as that term is defined in 28 C.F.R. Part 75) for every actor or actress who is nude or is engaging in actual or simulated sexually explicit conduct in your motion picture. 'Sexually Explicit Conduct' includes masturbation, and or lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area. The AVN Film Festival will not accept any videos that contain (visible) oral sex, anal sex, vaginal intercourse, bestiality, or sadomasochistic abuse. You must also provide the AVN Film Festival with a completed 'Performer Names Disclosure Agreement' for every performer engaged in nudity or sexually explicit conduct in your motion picture.

b.)  All actors and actresses must not only be adults, they must also be portrayed as adults. The AVN Film Festival will not accept any motion picture that suggests that any actor or actress portrayed therein is less than 18 years old.

c.)  Your motion picture may not contain obscene or violent material. We understand that people have differing opinions regarding what is obscene or violent, and the AVN Film Festival will make the final determination in that regard if such a question arises. Please remember that the purpose of this contest is to challenge your creativity and filmmaking skills as they pertain to erotica. The focus of the Festival is not gratuitous sexual or physical degradation of actors or actresses in your motion picture.

d.)  Your motion picture may not depict the visible insertion of any body part or physical object into the vagina or anus.

e.)  Depictions of fellatio or cunnilingus are permitted, but your motion picture may not show visible oral contact with male or female genitals or anus.

f.)  Your motion picture may not depict ejaculate, urine, or feces.

g.)  Your motion picture may not depict bestiality.

h.)  Close up shots of the vagina, penis, or anus will not be permitted. Remember that this is a festival of erotic motion pictures; the challenge is to use your movie-making talents to provoke the erotic emotions of the viewer without showing the actual act of sex. Remember that this is mature but not pornographic content.

i.)  Your motion picture must be submitted and received (along with the materials described in Paragraph 6, below) on or before July 1, 2009.

j.)  NO WATERMARKS ON VIDEO


5.)  Submission of an entry automatically transfers unlimited exhibition, duplication and distribution rights for the entry to The AVN Film Festival. The media and the contents contained on the media becomes the property of The AVN Media Network, Inc. Entries may be used for commercial purposes. The intent is to allow the Festival to use your entry for promotional or educational purposes. The AVN Film Festival will not use your name or other personal information associated with your submission without your prior permission.

6.)  No entry will be considered unless the entire entry form is completed in its entirety. A single entry may be entered in only one category and level. If you are entering more than one project, you must submit a separate, completed entry form for each one.

7.)  Each entry must be accompanied by the following:

a.)  A completed submission form (found in Video Upload section)
b.)  If nudity is shown, a copy of the person's ID showing proof of legal age
c.)  Appropriate clearances or rights
d.)  Unique Login/Membership

8.)  By submitting your motion picture, all entrants shall indemnify, defend and hold the AVN Film Festival, its agents and its representatives harmless from and against any and all claims, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses which may be incurred by reason of any breach of these representations, or arising out of any matter contained in the media or otherwise by the Festival's use of the media.

9.)  Entries may be disqualified for the following reasons:

a.)  materials deemed inappropriate or that do not meet the Content Guidelines
b.)  incomplete application materials and documentation
c.)  entries which exceed the 7 minute time limit or submitted in the wrong format
d.)  showing of nudity without the appropriate age verification paperwork
e.)  submitted after the deadline

In the case of disqualification, an attempt will be made by the festival staff to contact the entrant. This will allow an opportunity for the disqualification (other than late entries) to be remedied.

10.)  In case of questions, disputes or misunderstandings, all decisions of the Directors of the Festival are final.

11.)  NO PURCHASE NECESSARY AND THERE IS NO FEE TO ENTER. The contest is restricted to US residents (other than residents of the State of Arizona), but you must be 21 or older to enter. Entry is void where prohibited by law. Entry by members of the Film Festival Board of Advisors, or any member of the Staff of the AVN Media Network, Inc. is expressly prohibited.

Entry formats

All motion picture projects submitted shall be limited to 7 minutes. If your project is longer than this limit, please consider re-editing the program in order to meet the entry requirements. If a submission is longer than the 7-minute limit, the submission with not be accepted. Only the versions which meet the festival competition criteria will be judged in the festival competition.

Entries can originate on any motion picture (image) medium (as defined above). All entries must submit as electronic media and uploaded to the Festival website. They must conform to the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) specifications.

Should you have difficulty uploading your project to the website, you may submit your project along with the completed Entry Form to the AVN Festival Offices located at: 9414 Eton Avenue, Chatsworth, CA 91311, Attention: AVN Filmfest Submission.

Only the following videotape and disc formats are acceptable for submission:

a.)  VHS (standard size cassette, Standard Play mode only)
b.)  miniDV (Standard Play mode only)
c.)  DVD (video mode only)

DO NOT SEND THE MASTER COPY OF YOU PRODUCTION. DO, HOWEVER, SEND A HIGH QUALITY COPY. Make sure that you enclose a copy of your Entry Form

Prizes

Grand Prize is $4,000 cash, a production contract with a major adult film company, and two VIP tickets to the AVN Adult Movie Awards in Las Vegas.
Second Place will receive $1,000 cash and two VIP tickets to the AVN Adult Movie Awards in Las Vegas
Third Place will receive two VIP tickets to the AVN Adult Movie Awards in Las Vegas.

In the event that the stated prize cannot be provided, the winner will receive a prize of equivalent value.

The winners of the Festival will be based on our interactive online viewer voting system at www.avnfilmfest.com. The top 20 clips voted on by viewers will be submitted to our nominations category, which are then voted on by a panel of 10 independent judges all of whom are industry experts. Online voting begins August 1, 2009 and nominees will be announced October 1, 2009. Winners will be announced at the AVN Adult Movie Awards Show on January 9, 2010.
